10 Fun Facts About the Human Body

  1. There are a total of 206 bones in the human body. Bones give proper shape to the body, provide attachment for muscles and produce red blood cells.
  2. The largest bone in the human body is the femur bone. It can support 30 times the weight of a person’s body.
  3. Bones are stronger than steel but are also brittle and can fracture on impact.
  4. Joints can start to creak when cartilage wears out but not always.
  5. The word “muscle” comes from the Latin term meaning “little mouse” which is what Ancient Romans thought a flexed bicep muscle resembled.
  6. The human body has over 600 muscles. Some of these muscles control big movements such as moving the arms and legs. Other muscles control tiny movements, like blinking.
  7. The gluteus maximus (buttocks) is the body’s largest muscle in the body.
  8. The strongest muscle in the human body is the massetor or the jaw muscle.
  9. Fingers don’t have muscles that facilitate movement. The tendons in our fingers are moved by the muscles of the forearm.
  10. The body is made up of 80% water. So stay hydrated!!
